Roots Run Deep addresses critical questions:
Where are the roots of our unconscious behaviors? Are those subconscious beliefs and emotional reactions running our societies? What unresolved issues fuel our societal wounds?
We all have ancestors, with their own secrets, migrations and sorrows.
Epigenetics shows trauma does affect our DNA for generations.
Roots Run Deep unveils the inner dynamics of these themes through the lives of the main characters, emphasizing that while trauma may not have started with us, it can end with us.
In a moment where disconnection from oneself, communities, and nature are prominent, understanding intergenerational trauma is vital: our behaviors, our character, might be echoes of hidden familial stories and post-traumatic stress caused by abuse, wars and exile, perpetuating cycles of pain and disconnect.
By confronting how unhealed trauma impacts the nervous system, causes chronic ilnesses and autoimmune diseases in the descendants of guerrilla survivors, war refugees, and victims of narcissistic abuse, we can break the cycle and heal those open wounds.
Roots Run Deep shows the combined effects of patriarchal and colonial structures and how those systems of inequality contribute to psychophysical illnesses and developmental trauma across generations: Being unsafe in one's own body and/or home, being excluded from one’s local community, and alienated due to multicultural origins are all topics explored through an intimate lens. Beyond power dynamics and cultural divides, we are all connected in the international web of our ancestral lineages.
This film will illustrate that change is not only possible but also currently essential for our individual and collective well-being. Amid the current global health, social and climate crisis, with the sociopolitical divide and disconnect from the natural organism we belong to, it is crucial to produce this feature film in 2025 and share it with audiences worldwide.
We hold in our hands both the potential of trauma and of gifts we inherited. It’s up to us to choose which ones and how to apply them in our lives, consciously.
Roots Run Deep is meant to inspire people to take action to address those themes, to look within, and root for each other to break toxic patterns. It’s a film that shows how to alchemize wounds into wisdom, to deal with them in dignity, to be able to fully live and thrive in one’s life instead of unconsciously roll into a constant cycle of fear and deception.
